Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Best Roles: Watch Now

Philip Seymour Hoffman, an Academy Award winning actor who appeared in everything from "The Hunger Games" series, to Tony Award nominated roles on Broadway in "Death of a Salesman" and "True West" died on February 2 after an apparent drug overdose. Though the circumstances of his death are still being investigated, what doesn't remain in question is that Hoffman was a monumental actor whose talent will cast a shadow long after he's gone. Here's a look back on some of his best performances:

"Boogie Nights"
Hoffman's collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson started with "Hard Eight," and lasted for six movies (some of which we'll get to in a moment), but it was "Boogie Nights" that truly rocketed Hoffman to public consciousness. His role as Scotty J, a boom operator in love with porn star Dirk Diggler (Mark Wahlberg) was simultaneously funny, weird, and heartbreaking... A combination that became a hallmark of Hoffman's performances going forward.

"
Hoffman cemented his particularly niche with the subversive, often uncomfortable "Happiness" the year after "Boogie Nights." In the movie he plays a sad sack just looking for love who ends up making obscene phone calls. His mixture of shyness and eventual seething rage was something that is impossible to look away from.

"
Working once again with Paul Thomas Anderson, Hoffman changed up his calling card and instead played a simple, caring nurse. No weird ticks, no seething rage, just a nice guy who wants to help people. It stretched his range, and made us care.

"The Talented Mr. Ripley"

Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead At 46

Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment on Sunday morning (February 2). According to the Wall Street Journal, the New York Police Department is investigating the case along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine an exact cause of death. Hoffman, 46, was reportedly found in bathroom of his apartment in New York's West Village neighborhood.

Last summer Hoffman entered a rehab facility for 10 days after slipping back
into drug-taking following more than two decades of sobriety. Hoffman was a father of three young children with costume designer Mimi O'Donnell.

The New York Post reported that Hoffman was found by an assistant who called 911 around 11:30 a.m. after finding the actor dead of an apparent drug overdose.

The versatile star, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Truman Capote in 2005's "Capote," was nominated for Academy Awards for his work in "Charlie Wilson's War," "Doubt" and 2012's "The Master." From the beginning of his career in 1991, when he landed supporting roles in such films as "Scent of a Woman" and a scene-stealing turn in the porn drama "Boogie Nights," Hoffman established a reputation for portraying intense, often conflicted characters with a dark side.

He brought those acting skills to Broadway as well, notching three Tony Award nominations for his roles in "True West" and 2012's "Death of a Salesman." He reached a whole new audience in 2013 when he appeared as gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in

He completed his role in this year's "The ...

What Time Is The Super Bowl On? A Pop Culture Guide To The Big Game

After two weeks, the hype has built to a deafening crescendo. But now the talk is over and it's time to hit the (frozen) turf at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for what most outlets have to legally refer to as "the big game."

Yes, Super Bowl XLVIII will pit the best offense in the league against the best defense, but the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks are just part of the pop culture
orgy that will unfold on Fox today.

There are a ton of moving parts, so here's your cheat sheet for everything you're going to need to know about the big broadcast.

Start Time
We're not sure if Lorde will be watching , but if she is, the game is slated to start at 6:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. on the West Coast) and wrap-up sometime around 10 p.m.

The day begins well before kick-off, though, with the "Road to the Super Bowl" special on Fox, which starts at 12 p.m. ET (all times listed are ET). That begins six hours of pre-game festivities, including the actual pre-game show, which goes from 2 p.m. until kick-off.

If you hang around, there's a half-hour post-game show, then new episodes of "New Girl" and Golden Globe-winning Andy Samberg sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" in the cushy 10:30-11:30 p.m. slot.

The Entertainment
Before the game you'll get sets from Phillip Phillips and the Band Perry, before the Syracuse and Rutgers University bands take the turf at the stadium. Then it's up to Queen Latifah to get the party started with "America the Beautiful," followed by opera diva ...

‘Girls’: Everything That’s Wrong With Marnie, According To Ray

It's something that everyone has dreamed of doing, but very few actually dare to do: have a friend tell them exactly what's up with them. Everything that's wrong. Everything others say behind their backs. In this week's episode of "Girls," "Only Child," Marnie totally went there.

"I guess I just wanted you to, um. I don't really know how to say this," she stuttered after bursting into Ray's apartment. "I wanted you to tell me what's wrong with me."

"You are someone who likes to tell people what's wrong with them anyway, so shoot."

Girl Girl. Giiiiiirl. Terrible idea.

Marnie's clearly in the midst of a quarterlife crisis, two breaths away from a restorative juice cleanse and underwater SoulCycle classes that'll have her claiming that she's "found her center again," plus she totally earnestly whispered to a kitten that it was her "best friend," but that's no reason for her to go about shattering what little sense of self-worth she has left. (And, hot tip, we're worried about the chemical implications of exercising that vigorously underwater.)

For posterity, or so that (fictional) Marnie has a list to show her (fictional) therapist, here are all the things that Ray thinks are wrong with Marnie, and some things about her that are OK too. (And stay tuned for a special edition bonus list!)

Everything That's Wrong With Marnie, According to Ray
» For beginners, you're extremely judgmental.
» You came in here and you immediately insulted me and my neighborhood.
» You come across like you're better than everyone and you want no part of their lives, but then ...
