‘The Flash’ Pilot Gets A ‘Smash’ing New Cast Member

Looks like our secret dream that The CW's "The Flash" will turn out to be the first televised superhero musical is one step closer to reality: singer/thespian Jesse L. Martin has joined the cast as Detective West.

As previously reported, the spin-off of "

When he was last referenced on "Arrow," it was revealed he was in a coma after the lightning strike. Most likely he'll wake up right around this Fall, when The CW will presumably air the "

Rounding out the cast will be Martin, who will play, "an honest, blue-collar cop who is a surrogate father to Barry. A soulful, funny and caring father to Iris -- Barry's potential love interest -- West came up through the foster care system and took Barry in after his mother's slaying and father's imprisonment. He believes in Barry and supports his efforts to prove his father's innocence."

That confirms a number of rumors around the project, including whether "Ghostbusters" Ernie Hudson would play Detective West (clearly not), and whether Barry and Iris would have a "Flowers in the Attic" inspired relationship (clearly so, and yuck). Also, unless he gets murdered in the pilot to provide some sort of heroic impetus for Barry, it means Martin will once again be playing a Detective long-term, something he did for 200 episodes on "Law & Order."

Also, he's really good at singing, as is Gustin. Let's cast Jennifer Hudson as Iris West and call it a night.

"The Flash" will premiere this fall on The CW.

A Great Big World Say ‘Everyone Is Gay’ On Is There Anybody Out There?

It really is a great big world — one where a relatively unknown band can open for "The Voice" and become an overnight sensation.

That's the story of A Great Big World, who found instant fame after performing "Say Something" alongside Christina Aguilera on the reality competition show back in October 2013. Hot off the heels of their double-platinum success, the New York duo released their latest album Is There Anybody Out There? on Tuesday (January 21).

But if you're expecting a bunch of songs just like "Say Something," you're in for a surprise.

"I would say our sound is upbeat, fun, positive music, mostly," Ian Axel told MTV News, noting the exception of their runaway ballad.

Besides getting love from Xtina, A Great Big World has received a flood of accolades from Kelly Clarkson to OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder.

In addition to "Say Something," Is There Anybody Out There? also includes the melodic "Shorty Don't Wait," the joyous "This is the New Year" (which was covered by the cast of "Glee") and "Everyone is Gay," an energetic but powerful song the band took on to help raise funds for their friends' LGBTQ site of the same name.

"We wish we had a song when we were younger telling us everything was OK and we can be who we are and we're beautiful," Axel said, remembering the times they were bullied in their youth. "We felt like we were doing something right with our time and energy."

Trent Reznor Sinks His Nine Inch Nails Into ‘Gone Girl’ Score

First Trent Reznor's Beats Music service hits the scene and now this: Mr. Nine Inch Nails himself will be scoring David Fincher's cinematic adaptation of Gillian Flynn's We have goosebumps already.

Tuesday (January 21), Reznor took to Twitter to announce the partnership, writing: "and yes, Atticus and I are scoring David Fincher's upcoming Gone Girl!"

Reznor and collaborator Atticus Ross previously worked with Fincher on the score for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" and "The Social Network," the latter of which earned them an Oscar.

The NIN frontman is the latest addition to the upcoming flick, which tells the tale of Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck), a depressed writer who becomes the leading suspect in the disappearance and possible murder of his wife Amy (Rosamund Pike).

Much of the adaptation's future is still in the shadows, though, as according to Flynn, the powerhouse ending of the book received a makeover for the big screen. Whatever the outcome, however, we're sure Reznor will add an appropriate layer of gloom.

"It was interesting for me to not be boss," Reznor told Mashable when he signed on to work on "The Social Network," the first flick he scored in its entirety. "I'm not the top of the pyramid here. So, I enjoyed the role of working for someone, for someone else's vision."

We're excited to see what the combined visions of Fincher, Flynn and Reznor will produce when the film premieres in October. Until then, we'll sleep with the lights on in preparation.

Joe Manganiello Shares The Naked Truth About His Stripper Documentary

If you thought that Joe Manganiello's talents ended with being the beefcakiest hunk in Bon Temps, think again! Turns out, the "True Blood" actor is more than a manly pile of eye candy: beneath those rippling muscles, there lies a gifted auteur.

"La Bare," Manganiello's documentary film about the eponymous best little male strip club in Texas, is currently making waves at the Slamdance Film Festival, where it premiered to great acclaim — and not just because it contains copious footage of strapping men dancing in thongs, either.

Intrigued? Yeah, you are. Here's what you need to know about Joe's big directorial debut:

It's A Family Affair
"La Bare" is the first film to come out of Joe Manganiello's brand-new production company, which he founded along with his lookalike brother, Nick.

You Can Thank Big Dick Ritchie For This One
Joe readily admits that he wasn't exactly raring to learn more about banana hammocks and nude booty-shaking until he was offered a role in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike," prompting him to seek out a friend who had worked at La Bare in the 1990s. The conversation didn't just inspire the actor's performance as a well-endowed exotic dancer; it also gave him the idea to document the weird, wild world of male stripping in this film.

Don't Let The Fancy Frenchness Fool You
The preferred pronunciation of the Dallas club's name is a distinctly down-home "luh bear."

'La Bare' Is The Place Where Stripping Stars Are Born
According to Manganiello, the stage at La Bare is where some of the best and most famous entertainers in ...

Katy Perry Talks Boobs, Weed And Aliens In GQ Magazine

They say if you got it, flaunt it, and that's exactly what Katy Perry is doing on the cover of GQ magazine.

The "Unconditionally" singer poses in a daring one-piece bathing suit for the magazine's February issue, and discusses the very topics included in the Love! Sex! Madness! theme.

From losing her virginity at 16 to plastic surgery to her relationship with John Mayer, Perry doesn't hold anything back in the revealing interview. MTV News rounded up the most riveting moments from Perry's GQ interview.

Praying For Boobs
Growing up in Santa Barbara, California, Perry dreamed of two things: becoming a singer and being very well-endowed. Lucky for her, both wishes were granted. "I lay on my back one night and looked down at my feet, and I prayed to God. I said, 'God, will you please let me have boobs so big that I can't see my feet when I'm lying down?' " At age 11, "God answered my prayers," she told the mag.

"I had no clue they would fall into my armpits eventually."

Katy Is "Au Naturel"
Perry practices what she preaches. Known for inspirational songs like "Firework" and "Roar," the singer proudly revealed that she believes in her own message of self-empowerment. "I've never had any plastic surgery," she said. "Not a nose, not a chin, not a cheek, not a tit. So my messages of self-empowerment are truly coming from an au naturel product."

Not Going Up in Smoke
Katy Perry and Rihanna may be close friends, but they don't have everything in common, and one of those things is weed. ...
