Lorde’s Little Sister Has Her Eye on The Throne

Lorde's little sister is getting in on the act.

Over the weekend, India Yelich-O'Connor, 15, uploaded her somber cover of A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera's "Say Something" to SoundCloud, instantly drawing comparisons — warranted or otherwise — to her Grammy-nominated sibling.

Of course, by familial standards, India is a bit of a late bloomer: Years before she became Lorde, Ella Yelich-O'Connor was signed to Universal Music at the age of 13, after footage of her performing at a talent show found its way to now-manager Scott Maclachlan ... but in terms of the music biz, well, she's right on schedule.

After all, following in the footsteps of a famous sibling is an industry tradition on par with mature sophomore albums and stints in rehab. Some, like Janet Jackson and Solange Knowles are able to establish successful careers of their own, while others aren't so lucky. Still, that hasn't stopped a whole new generation from trying to cash in on their family name ... here are some recent examples of brothers (and sisters) trying to work it out.

Jamie Lynn Spears

Looking to build on older sister Britney's recent renaissance, in late 2013, Jamie Lynn released a country-tinged tune that, like Brit's new songs, deals with heartbreak. It debuted at number 8 on the Billboard Country Digital Songs chart (and inexplicably made it to #1 in Turkey), serving as a solid launching pad for her upcoming debut album, reportedly due this year.

‘300: Rise Of An Empire’: Watch The New Trailer Now

Body piercings, epic choirs over rock music, uber-violence and abs that would make Ryan Gosling's abs blush can only mean one thing: a new trailer for

While Gerard Butler's Leonidas won't come back for the new movie because of the slight handicap of — spoiler alert — being dead, his wife Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey), still sore about said death, wants revenge on Xerxes, leader of the Persians who killed him. She asks hunky Greek general Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton) to do battle for her, uniting the Greeks in the process.

Rodrigo Santoro also returns from the first film to play the still-alive Persian god-king Xerxes, replete with golden short shorts and more body piercings than a punk concert.

But really, we shouldn't be talking about plot when it comes to a "300" trailer. As a foreboding voiceover by newcomer to the series Eva Green spells out, these movies are about "The ecstasy of steel and flesh. The sweat of muscle and rage."

And there is plenty of all of the above, with almost every shot of the trailer featuring shirtless warriors with bulging muscles and massive swords.

While "300" focused on a — relatively — small setting, it is clear that the sequel intends to up the ante, featuring huge naval battles and burning cities.

Still, "Rise of an Empire" will keep up with its predecessor, delivering on the slow-motion scenes Zach Snyder made famous, the epic choir-rock score meant to inject adrenaline straight to your brain, and, most of all, beautiful people with perfect bodies beating the crap out ...

Can Beats Music Beat The Rest In The Streaming Game?

Beats introduced unto the world yet another way to listen to music Tuesday (January 21), as the popular headphone maker finally unveiled its Spotify/Deezer/Rdio competitor, Beats Music.

The streaming music service hit Web, iOS and Android devices today -- a slick offering that combines features from existing services like Spotify (on-demand tunes and offline listening), Pandora (listening suggestions) and Songza (curated playlists).

When you first fire up the app — signing up via Twitter, Facebook or email — you'll be led through a series of questions about what genres and artists you dig to better tailor your experience. You'll then land on the homepage, which will suggest tunes based on your answers.

The app is broken up into four sections: "Just For You," the aforementioned suggestion page; "The Sentence," a cool little tool that lets you construct a sentence such as "I'm at home and feel like taking a selfie with your ex to dance" and a corresponding playlist; "Highlights," a series of expert-curated playlists; and "Find It," which lets you search by genre, activities (BBQing, being blue, etc), and curators.

Naturally, you're also able to search for bands and albums — from a bank of more than 20 million songs — add tunes to your library and follow those bands for future updates. In addition, you can follow friends and influencers to check out what they're listening to.

On the whole, the app is a sleek, easy-to-use (and easy on the eyes) alternative to more established deals like Spotify and Rdio. However, unlike those two, Beats does not ...

Dave Grohl To Close Out Grammys With Rock Superjam

How do you close out a show that will already feature performances from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Daft Punk with Stevie Wonder and Pharrell, Taylor Swift Lorde, Robin Thicke, Kendrick Lamar with Imagine Dragons, Pink Metallica and former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, among others?

Oh, and, reportedly, Jay Z and Beyoncé?

Cap it with all all-star rock jam headlined by 13-time Grammy winner and Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl, who will be joined by Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails and Fleetwood Mac legend Lindsey Buckingham. The connective tissue between all the acts is that they appeared in Grohl's 2013 directorial debut documentary, "Sound City: Real to Reel." And, well, they totally rock.

"We're incredibly excited about this number," Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement. "There's nothing better than when the Grammys can rock out, and to have these artists all together on one stage, doing a number that, when they presented it to us, knocked us out, is going to turn out to be one of those Grammy moments that people talk about for a long time."

There's no word yet on what the supergroup will perform in the Grammy telecast debut from NIN and Queens. All (with the exception of Buckingham) are also nominated for Grammys this year, with Queens considered by many to be the front-runners in the Best Rock Album category. Also added to the performance-heavy roster for the show were Hunter Hayes and blues guitarist Gary Clark Jr. Among the announced presenters are: Ariana Grande, Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Miguel, Anna ...

Schoolboy Q Commands Kendrick To ‘Move From The Throne’ On ‘Break The Bank’

Schoolboy Q has rap's first big release of 2014 on deck and the Black Hippy MC is making sure that his lane is clear before his February 25 release date. He even issues a playful warning to his pal Kendrick Lamar.

"Tell Kendrick move from the throne, I came for it," Q raps on "Break the Bank," a new track that was made available on Monday night after Schoolboy's Oxymoron went up for pre-order on iTunes.

Though the album is up for pre-order, the track list still hasn't been revealed, aside from previously released songs "Collard Greens," and now the newly released "Break the Bank."

Q's latest is a dark and dastardly sing along where the California spitter counts the spoils from his latest rap heist. "Goodbye to Nissan, 'cause one day this rapping gonna pay," he spits before delivering a melodic chorus.

"So now we 'bout to break the bank," Q croons while laying a couple of raspy melodies to flesh out the Alchemist-produced track.

Q also revealed the album's regular retail and deluxe covers. The first cover features a black-and-white picture of the rapper's daughter Joy, who wears her daddy's gold chain, rap scowl and signature bucket hat. The deluxe album cover has Schoolboy wearing a white ski mask and matching white bucket hat.

On Wednesday, the TDE lyricist will sit with MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway on "RapFix Live" to talk about his upcoming release on an episode that will also feature Pro Era.

‘Maleficent’: Watch The New Trailer Now

Everyone grab your leather horned helmets and file your cheekbones to finely hewn edge! A new trailer for "

This time around there's no question about the inspiration behind the upcoming film. Intercut with footage from the 1959 Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty," this trailer shows how familiar scenes will go down when "Maleficent" hits theaters this summer.

In the trailer: the procession of the kingdom's citizens into the palace for the baby princess's christening; the prince (Brenton Thwaites) approaching a bed where the enchanted Aurora (Elle Fanning) lies sleeping; the giving of birthday gifts by three petite fairies; and of course the part in which a peeved Maleficent exacts revenge for her lack of party invitation by cursing the newborn with death-by-spindle.

The high point of this new peek at the film is Angelina Jolie. Thanks to her, we predict that blood-red lips and pointy prosthetic cheekbones will be this year's hottest trends. But while the new trailer gives us a longed-for glimpse of our villainess and finally offers an answer to the all-consuming question about the nature of her horns — yes, they are part of her actual skull and not merely a cool accessory — it also has us scratching our heads, due to the inclusion of a completely unexpected dialogue between Maleficent and the teenage Aurora.

"There is an evil in this world," the dark fairy declares. "And I cannot keep you from it."

...Wait, what? Up until now, "Maleficent" had been teased as a dark, thrilling take on the classic fairytale, one in which the most fabulous ...

Kelly Clarkson ‘Knew It’: She’s Having A Girl

Kelly Clarkson has an announcement: she's "officially" having a baby girl.

"We just found out we're having a girl officially!" Clarkson tweeted on Monday (January 20). "I knew it! Only a girl could cause this much drama with all this vomiting ha!"

Clarkson wed husband and talent manager Brandon Blackstock in October and announced her pregnancy the following month. She has had a mother's intuition from the start of her pregnancy, predicting that she was going to have a baby in pink.

"I'm totally gonna have a girl," Clarkson told Parade Magazine in November. "I'm manifesting it! And when I have a girl, you're gonna be like, 'That chick knew it!' "

And even though Clarkson is expecting the "coolest kid ever" in less than six months, it doesn't mean it's been an easy pregnancy for the pop star, who revealed last month to Ellen DeGeneres that she throws up "a good dozen times a day."

"I'm not even kidding, it's so bad. It's so bad. It's, like, so gross," Clarkson said. "And that's the thing too, you're not attractive when you're pregnant. Everybody tells you [that] you glow and your hair is pretty and your nails are pretty. That is total crap. My nails are short, my hair still falls out — it's not all lush and beautiful — and I have no glow. Unless it's, like, something left over from a bad throw up. It's horrible."

This will be Clarkson's first child who joins her husband's two children from a previous relationship.
